Night Ferry Compass helps overseas travellers choose a Japanese overnight ferry. It compares routes, ships, private and shared cabins, solo use, boarding without a car and how each operator can actually be booked from abroad. Operator websites are often partly in Japanese, and the English pages don't always show the same detail. Here we put that detail side by side.
How this site is made
This site is run from Japan. AI tools do most of the routine work. They find the operators' official pages (including Japanese-only pages and PDFs), extract timetables and cabin conditions, put them into one format and draft the English text. A person reviews the data and wording before anything is published and checks the important claims against the original pages.
- Official information only. Every value comes from the ferry operator's own website, and each route lists its sources with the date we checked them.
- No guessing. If the official pages don't state something, we show “Not confirmed”, not “No”.
- No trip reports. We have not written up our own crossings and we don't publish ratings or reviews. Comparisons are based on the operators' stated conditions.
- No fares. Fares change by season and date. Check them on the operator's site.
- Not a travel agent. We can't make, change or cancel bookings.
How we make money
We may in future earn a commission from some booking links. That never decides which routes or cabins we list or how we compare them. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
Corrections
If a timetable, cabin or booking route has changed, please tell us through the contact page. We'll check the official source again and update the data and its check date.
